Synopsis: "When Sierra goes missing, six individuals are called in for questioning. As the investigation unravels, we discover the true motives of each suspect, and we glimpse secrets which some would rather have forgotten. The police are investigating Sierra’s past but her future lies in the suspects’ hands."
I was the Editor/Gaffer on this film as part of the National Youth Film Academy's Set Ready Course 2020. This was an invaluable networking and skill development opportunity. I particularly developed my understanding of the sound editing process by getting the opportunity to work with Bang Post Production. I also developed a new level of appreciation for team work and an extremely strong work ethic as we bonded as a team (Spectra Productions) and had to adapt to tight deadlines. On top of this we had to follow strict COVID-19 Guidelines at a time where many other productions were not taking place. This would not have been achieved if it were not for the Producers Bailey Fear and Anna de Vries. I also worked closely with the cinematographer Ben Atkinson and observed him at work, Through this and editing the footage I gained a greater understanding of the craftsmanship involved in cinematography. Working with Directors Arjun Pala and Beth Tyler on the film and especially taking there editing notes allowed me to work on my ability to respond constructively and adapt in an organized and productive manner. Their creative vision was inspiring and their technical eye meant the editing was well prepared for during pre production. I also had the opportunity to work with award winning director Nathan Hannewin who gave me multiple editing notes on how to improve the film to as close of an industry standard as possible. The National Youth Film academy team including Rob Earnshaw and Dean Smith oversaw our production and offered insightful insight into the operations of the industry. The film is being showcased at Raindance film festival, with the world premiere on the 28th of October. It will then follow a film festival run into 2021 after a successful crowdfunder campaign.

Shot over multiple days this short film was an especially valuable experience for learning about organization and communication as I had to direct actors and create a large portfolio of detailed pre production information. I also learnt a lot about structural editing from writing the screenplay and coming to the editing process where multiple scenes were cut out for better pacing and narrative. I have learnt a lot from the mistakes I made in this short film regarding Writing and Editing which I take forward with me proud of the learning experience I had gained from doing so many roles and organising the ambitious no budget short that it became. This included producing an house party scene with 50+Extras.
I received a Distinction from this coursework unit, I believe this is because of my drive and ambition to create as large of a scale possible with plenty of Limitations.
Trade off
Directed by Robert Loud and Xander J Cliffe
Trade off is a short Action/Drama film I Co-Directed, Produced, Edited, Cinematography and the VFX for. On completion me and my partner Xander J Cliffe where determined to create the opportunity for us to express our passion for film by creating an ambitious short film with a pre-production and production window of two weeks. With the kind opportunity of using the Tippers warehouse provided to us by Brody Bates and Richard Bates, we were able to bring 15 actors on two shooting days to film this action short.
This was an incredibly valuable skill for me as I was able to learn about pacing and storytelling through cutting and learn Adobe After Effects to be able to create the action spectacle visual effects I had envisioned. I also did extensive independent reading and research into books regarding editing such as Walter Murch's "In The Blink Of An Eye" and "The Filmmakers' Bible Second Edition" to ensure that I could improve the quality of my work. I also watched and followed extensive amounts of online tutorials to create a better understanding of how to create effective action in film as well as how to become a more advanced user of the Adobe Creative Cloud Softwares.
teenage murders
Directing, Producing, Cinematography and Editing by Robert Loud.

Synopsis:
Two friends confront each other in the woods until they are interrupted by a stranger in a Halloween mask.

This was a particularly challenging production. Despite its short length this was originally written as a short thriller film called "Hunt". However two thirds of the production team fell ill on the day of shooting and did not provide me with the script for the short. I learnt how to save a film in editing fast.

Not only this but all of the actors became unavailable on the date. I adapted to the situation at hand Immediately and asked two trusted regular collaborators of mine if they were available. Due to the last minute nature of the production and the travelling to location there was a thirty minute window to shoot the film. During this I dramatically shortened the length of the vision down and worked closely with the actors to improvise lines in response to each other based on themes, ideas and reactions. With the footage I received I was then only left with a one hour post production windows I re-shaped the vision and pacing once more based on the tone of the footage. I made the essential call to convert the genre from a thriller to a comedy with elements of drama and thriller. With an experimental sound track and cutting techniques I was able to create an entertaining short in time for a tight deadline. Developing my adaptability, creative identity and editing workflow for more productive and detailed projects in the future.
the guest
Directed by Robert Loud and Xander J Cliffe
The guest was created as a collaborative short film project with frequent collaborator Xander J Cliffe. This was created for and entered into the Film Riot and Filmstro one minute short film competition. Whilst it may not have one the competition it provided some insight into how film competition applications and submissions work and it was also a valuable experience in cutting appropriatley for the tone of the piece as well as pruposefully to create visual storytelling. Such as the knife reveal which used non- continuity cutting to create suspense.
Beth Tyler's Rough cut:
Written, Directed by and Starring Beth Tyler. Edited by Robert Loud.

Synopsis:
Beth leads her friend Moses further into the woods, Moses begins to question where their destination is and Beth confronts him regarding the debt he owes.
Once I had met and worked with Director and Actor Beth Tyler on the social media work for insight, she approached me asking If I could assist her by re-cutting/editing a short film of hers she had Directed and Starred in. From this I I am Editing the Short film (In-Progress). From this project so far I have gained experience in working collaboratively remotely over video calling platforms. I have also learnt how to present creative experimentation and how to effectively adapt to notes.
loophole:
Written and Directed by Jonny Taylor. Assistant Writing and Editing by Robert Loud. (In Progress)

I had the opportunity to network and collaborate with Actor/Writer and Director Jonny Taylor. He pitched his concept for a feature fantasy/comedy called loophole. After I displayed interest and he saw my work on In-sight he brought me onboard.

Synopsis:
When an unambitious girl discovers a loophole in a genie’s wish limit, she must fight to undo the damage she has caused before a sinister force takes advantage of the power she has unknowingly unleashed.

There is currently a Ninety Two page Script written by the talented Jonny Taylor which he, Myself and Oscar Farrington will be working on cutting down into a ten minute pilot to be produced and released in 2021. The project is also being backed by Spectra Productions which I am a member of as an Editor.
Four Before:
Written and Directed by Anna De-Vries.
Assistant Editor, Colorist and poster design by Robert Loud.

After meeting Anna De-Vries on the set of In-sight I interviewed to edit the film. With tough competition from the very talented Nuno Cabaco I then became an Assistant Editor and learned Davinci Resolve on the job to produce a custom LUT for the Pro Res Raw footage. The short was entered into a Film Riot short film competition. Whilst it was not selected for the top twenty the final product is a great comedy about two women who are stuck in a cabinet whilst escaping a terrorist organization with a valuable item in there duffle bag.

Through the network I had developed with the team I had worked with on In-sight I was recommended by the director to a contact of their to edit their end of their Film Production BSC film from Oxford Brookes. I sent them my portfolio and am working on Pre-Production with producer Megan Shaw as they are planning to shoot in February with me editing remotely as I now have experience in doing. This is an excellent opportunity for me to demonstrate not only my confidence in ym work but also the high standard of my editing work for University application. I am always striving to get ahead with more experience as I recognize the competitive nature of the industry I aspire to work in.
