Uses and Gratification

This is the theory that the audience is active in what they choose to consume and do so to fulfill specific needs. Blulmer and Katz in 1974 suggested these examples of needs Entertainment, Information, Personal identity, Personal Relationships. This is often associated with reception theory which focuses on what people see in the media and the meanings they produce.
