Star Theory

One person who wrote about Star theory is professor Christine Gledhill, She discusses four major points. One is stars as capital value, there charisma and following means that they add monetary value to the film therefore decreasing risk. She also discusses how stars are a construct, They are designed and many consider them to be "Not Real", Often the public get excited when we see a story about the "Real" side of the star in the news. Stars being deviant and consumers creating hype and excitement around these deviant events. Stars having a cultural value and influencing fashion and other elements. A celebrity may make a choice to wear an outfit on their social media and others may copy. They often represent dominant ideology in the parts which they play.

Richard Dyer also wrote about Star theory.Discussing in depth how stars construct a persona and are likely to behave differently in the comfort of their own home. Stars being used as a commodity is also important because of how prevalent and common merchandise designs and sales are now. Stars are also often followed because of their views and the similarity between them and there followers. They are often seen as inspiring. However it also acknowledges the negative side to stars in terms of heavy drinking an drug use. They are often used for promotion as they may choose to stick to a certain genre of film meaning that an audience will already have expectations when going to see a film.
