In-sight
Here is a trailer I have edited for the short film In-Sight to advertise its Raindance showcase and to create hype regarding the distribution plans for the theme. (Thumbnail design by the talented Benjamin Atkinson). As the editor of the film I have access and creative freedom to develop a cut of the trailer which conveys the films purpose and meaning with a good pace. It was also important not to reveal too much information or to little and the knowledgeable Director Arjun Pala was incredibly helpful in providing me with notes regarding the representation of his vision for the film.
The days before
Although not required for the coursework unit I decided to create a trailer for my short film The Days Before out of my passion for the art of trailer editing and for the opportunity to promote myself and my work as much as possible. Sharing this across my social media platforms assisted in creating a hype for the YouTube premiere of the project. The trailer is designed to intrigue the viewer and to demonstrate the chaotic non linear narrative of the short film. It cuts forwards and backwards in time and this assists in representing the characters confusion as a successful method of visual storytelling. It also displays the selected soundtracks and features high energy glitch transitions.
trade off
This is a teaser trailer I created to promote the YouTube Premiere of the short film Trade Off. The project had an extensive period between production and release so it was of significant importance that hype was created to initiate word of mouth interest in the film. The trailer was created out of footage from the film in my timeline and gives very little away, intentionally not including the experimental action scenes in an attempt to create suspense and a more effective story telling for the audience during their viewing experience of the finished short film.
in-sight
During the pre production of In-Sight it was decided that it would be of great benefit if we could develop and distribute a series of detailed trailers to assist in the crowd funder campaign. This all had to be planned and filmed remotely due to the pandemic lockdown at the time. To overcome this challenge I filmed a cinematic trailer panning across the suspect board with lines of dialogue in a DIY kitchen studio and the results were impressive! A very popular post as part of the campaign and one of the first film content related video posts this trailer was crucial in creating hype for In-sight.
Continuing the series of trailers that were produced during lockdown the dedicated actor and social media team member Charlotte Davies filmed herself walking through the woods in character to introduce the missing girl Sierra. I then edited this trailer using color correction, sound editing and overlaid graphic elements to convey that this was a video phone message to another character called Alexis.
In our series of lockdown pre production trailers the Directors and social media team decided to develop an audio trailer with captions which introduces the premise of the missing girl and the characters Alexis, Played by Alexandra Finnie and the 999 operator played by Beth Tyler. As one of the earliest posts this impressive dedication to the vision from the writer Bethany Darcey and Directors Arjun Pala and Beth Tyler led to early success with increasing viewership and interaction on instagram and facebook.
For this Trailer in the In-sight promotional series I developed new animation skills and applied my previous knowledge of Photoshop, After effects and keyframes to animate a cinematic mobile experience for our many mobile social media users. The objective of this trailer is to demonstrate all the other characters and their relationship/level of concern for the missing girl Sierra. Creating interest in the story before the film even moves into the production stage.
